THE EXPORT OF GOLD.

The following important proclamation; liasbeen issued by the Governor : — ; ; ./. ■ ; Whereas, by "Tile Customs - Regulation; Act, 185 j," it hi 'enacted that the^GoVernor J my from time to time by proclamation make provision for the examination -of exported gold,, not beiug gold coin, and respecting the •iupile of ■ pacldng and securing the same; and niay : prohibit .the exportation theieof, except from speciiicd ports, and generally may regulate- and" restrict the export of gold- otlier i than gold coin, and further, that the Go- J yonior may from time to time regulate and restrict the carriage of gold other than gold coin coastwise, from one port of tire Colony to another; And whereas by "The Gold Duty Act, 1858,"' provision is made for levying {t;du"ty npon gold exported from New Zealand : Now therefore, I, SirOeorge Grey, sihelCrovernor of. the Colony of Now Zealand, ; i]£jmrsuance and exercise of; the pewer and so vested in ma as aforesaid, do.. :li|rel>y proclaim and declare that no gold fother than gold coin shall hereafter, be from any part- of the said Colony, cither for exportation' or to be carried 5 eeasSAvisc from one port to another- in' the said Colony, except- gold upon wiiicli the said cx T port duty in and by "The Gold Duty Act, |1t>58," aforesaid, authorised to be levied, ||||»ll have been duly levied by and paid to Spllplillector of Customs for tlte port from b|||p|f|he same gold shall be first shipped : that gold upon which the %WM' duty shall have been duly lovieil ;uul ]>aid on shipment at any port of the said Colony may be landed in tlie said Colony and again shipped, for exportation without any further payment of dutj r , in the same or different parcels, upon production to the Collector of Customs at the port of re-ship-, liient of a certificate under tlie hand of the Collector of Customs the port whence the said gold" was originally shipped of the- due paymen.t of the said duty upon the same or an^ equal amount of gold, .and upon every such re-shipment, the Collector ,oE Customs at the port of re-shit inieut shall cancel the ce.-tificate of payment; of duty. so produced to him, as aforesaid. . by writing. thereupon Ms name, the date of such cancellation, and the name of the" port to which such gold is 80. re-shipped, And I do declare that tLis prm lunation shall come into operation and take effect on ihe -first day of February, 18l>7.
