SATURDAY JANUARY 19.

The Grand Jury were in attendance at 11 o'clock, and found the following true bills :— William DeLacy, conspiring to rob ; G. R. Chamberlain, wilful and corr.ipt perjury ; James Wilson aJwsMurray, wilful murder; Edmond Limond alias Lamond, three charges of forgery and uttering. This concluded the calender and the Grand Jury were discharged. larceny. : John Hartley, aged 32, a respeatably dressed man, was indicted for stealing, in November last, a watch and chain, the property of Nathan Marks, of Hokitika. He pleaded guilty to this and two other indictments for larceny, alleging intoxication as the cause. Testimony as to character having been given, His Honor said he was very sorry to see a man who had previously borne a good character, in such a position, but, at the same time he felt that he would "he guilty of a deriliction of his duty if he passed but a merely nominal sentence. His Honor therefore sentenced the prisoner, for the first offence, to twelve months' imprisonment with hard labor, to be computed from the 15th January inst., and for the second offence, twelve months' imprisonment with hard labor, the term of inmishment to commence also from the J^^h inst., thus only, virtually sentencing 9p prisoner to twelve months' imprisonaKeiit in all.
