Lidded passengers and cargo at 4 a.m. on tho }sth, anil sailed for Greymouth at 4.30 p. in., arriving here at 6,30 p,m., and proceeded on after a detention of half an hpur in transhipping gpods and passengers. On Tuesday afternoon the ketch Jane Elkin, which has fov a considerable time beenashorp on the North Beach, was launched. Owing, however, to the steep fall of about three feet from the ways to the water, the ends- of the ways were forced through her bottom, causing her to leak badly. The tug Persevere was attending tlie vessel for the purpose of towinir her out of the surf and into the river, and it was hoped that the vessel could be towed round before she had made much water. But when just outside the bar she began to fill rapidly, and in a very few minutes she heeled over and sank right pn .the bar. The captain and flve other men on board the vessel had fortunately sufficient warning of what was to happen as to enable them to stick to the ship's bottom when she turned over. The boat belonging to the Wild Wave at once put pff and took off four of the crew, and Caj)t Conlson, in the harbor-boat, rescued Capt Priest and two others. Fortuniitely the bar was unusually smooth or else there would have been small chance for the lives of those who were on board the schooner. The hull washeil ashore shortly afterwards near to the Wild Wave, and Avas yeptcrday sold for Ll9,
