#•■ 'Gkky River Ancus Office, Friday evening. The amount of revenue received at the Customs on goods cleared for home consumption pn Thursday and Friday was as follows ; _ Thursday, January 10, £54 14s 9d ; Friday, January 11. £101 0s Ud Business during the past week has. been almost at a standstill owing to the unfavorable state of the weather which prevented any up river traffic. With the advent of fine weather we may, however, look for a steady trade being done. Although profits are not very'larpc, yet there is a margin on most articles of general -consumption. We quote Hart's best br.and Adelaide flour LI 9 ; other brands Ll7 to L 18; Chilian flonr slow of \ale; Sinclair's hams and bacon Is &1 to 1 s 6d. Hennessy's anil Marten's brandy, in hulk. 13s and 10s (3d. Guiness's and Blood's stout, 1 7s to 18s. ■■ Sperm candles, Js 2d. A fair demand for good and medium port and sherry wines. Victoria Company ?{(>, J2 jugar, duty pai(l^s4s to oCs. ,

Ciiristciiup.ch Ghaix Makket. - The I fjtjttelton Times of the sth inst. reports as fpllows : — Oats were somewhat easier on Saturday. Some parcels of good quality changed hands at 3s 3d. Flour remains firm at old prices j superfine Canterbury can be quoted at Lls per ton. The average price of wheat was 4s 3d. Sharps may still be quoted at LJ per ton, and. bran at L<>. Hay js worth about L 4 10s per ton, delivered ; but the demand a£ that price not greatCHRjSTciiun.cn Liys Stock Report.— We extract the follo>ying frpna M^r Lockhart's last circular :— Fat Cattle— A good supply in the market. I quote prime conditioned at 5Ss per lOOlbs ; fair conditioned 55s to 5G ; inferior quality, 40s. In consequence pf a good supply of English and native grass, I do not apprehend any advance on the above quotations for some time to come. Fat Calyes— First:dass calves in good demand. They are readily saleable at (35s to GSs. per head. Milch Cows — The supply is equal to thp demand. Firstrdass dairy cows in full profit are worth L 24 ; second quality, Llo ; inferior, LI 2 to LI 3. Fat Sheep — A considerable number are offering \n the market. The price lias fallen quite 2s per head, viz., to ISs. Large numbers of prime conditioned fat wethers are to be had at that figure, without much demand. I am inclined to think that nq further reduction in the value will take place ; on the contrary, a sjjgbt improvement may be anticipated, Duxedix.t— We take the following report from the Dally Times of the sth inst :— . Consequent upon the holidays, and the usual disinclination during the last few days of the old year to go into any large transactions, there has not been much done in any department of trado. This clay has, however, been an exception, •and both privately and by auction, considerable sales Jjave been made. Staples continue so nearly at last quoted prices as to scarcely call for special; remark, the .advices of increased shipments of several articles having been counteracted by an extra first cost, and by the rather improved demand which in some instances is apparent. In flour, operations continue so limited as to keep the market at nominal quotations, though there is no disposition on the par|j °f holders to give way to any extent for tljc purpose of making sales. In tea 1 ?, business is done at sustained values. The demand continues fair, particularly for good descriptions, although it is known that shipments of new teas are near at hand. In sugars there has been but little doing privately, buyers waiting for the auction sales advertised for this day. These sales, which took place at Messrs) M'Laudress Hepburn and Co.'s rooms, resulted in the placing of the whole of the Fawn's and nearly all of the. EloiUVs cargoes. The prices realised Avure scarcely equal to those of last public sales, lijtt were as good as could have been anticipated jn the present^state of the market. Fine white crystals realised L4l os; good crystals, L 9. to L 37 10s ; darker sorts crystals, L«4 to L 33 ; cqunters, first, L 32 to L3l ; browner counters, L3O ty>L2B 10 ; low and ration, L 27 to L 25 10s. j\lei.bouh>.:b— The Argus oi tho st}i instant reports as follows : — A considerable amount qf busines has been transacted in the import market to-day, though fo.r mere trade requirements the demand has 110$ been so active.. In brcadstufl's best Adelaide town brands of dour continue to be firmly held for. Ll2 10s ; a small parcel of Californian noiiv wa? quitted at Ll2. Trade sales of Chilian wheat arc made afc 4* Gd, and Adelaide, wheat has been placed at 5s 3d. Maize is still offering at 4s,' but we understand that for really sound samples 4s Id has to be paid. Some commotion is reported to have been caused in the timber market by the operation of a speculator whose attention has been attracted by the low prices to which deals have been driven ; and the trade, instead of being able to purchase at the auction sale torday at 3.U1, as was anticipated* have been compelled to pay 4id and 4 5-K>d for 9x3, and up to 4 7- Kid for 8 x 3 per foot 9 x 3, for the only cargo disposed of —that of the Arctic— under the hammer, thus establishing a considerable advance. Other cargoes have been quitted privately. An invoice of Perry and Son's iron bedsteads has been, sold at about 12 per cent, advance. A shipment of 10 tons of Manilla coffee, fqy which 8d has been wanted, has, we believe, changed hands on private terms. A parcel of cornsacks (Dundees), about 20 bales, realised 13s 9d. Sales of ISO") hops are mentioned at Is 9d. In provisions we hear of a shipment of some hnndrcd cases of cheese having found a purchaser at lljd, in bond Trade sales of teas came under pur notice at 2s Id frcr good medium congous, duty paid ; a parcel of a hundred half-chests, ex Ecliptic, of ordinary congou, was placed at Is 1d in bo.nd. By public sale, ex Sophie, aud Albert and Viutu-, the auctioneer succeeded in disposing pf ISOS pksjs., chests, half-chests, and boxes, at prices rising from ls/}dto 1544«1, lsS.'.d, Is lI.W. 250.U1, .and up to 2s 3d, according to quality and description. The auction sale advertised for Monday, is, we observe, postponed to Wednesday, ai}d speculative inquiry for candles has led to the disposal of about 3000 boxes at up to lid". In tobaccoes we note tho sale, .publicly, of 2G5 boxes of tens, at lid to Is 32d ; and of 45 boxes, damaged, at 12||d. Privately some ten half -tierces of St. Andrew's twist, for another market, were sold on terms not allowed to transpire. Trade sales of Yonnger's stout are effected at 9s. Gd ; for a shipment of considerable extent, however, we learn that 9s has been taken. The cargo of Mauritius sugar, per Jane, will bo offered on Monday.
