The Council will be prorogued on Saturday, or ]\sonday at the furthest. Last night the following resolutions were parried :-r-The Council consider that Railway or Tramway communication between the East and West Coast of the Province is urgently required.. That, tlieref ore, th c Council respectfully ?e.commen4 his Honor the Superintendent to take such steps, by flffermg a guaranteed moderate rate of interest for a term of years on requisite and obtain such data as may in4uce contractors or others to undertake •the construction of the line of railway . xjr tramway between East and West Coasts, and will indemnify his Honor in - jany : expenditure' not exceeding LSOOO on measures necessary to cany it out. Mr Caasius strongly opposed the resolution, but Mr Bright and others spoke in i ivor. One hundred and twenty Chinese landed to-day at I)ynedin. A Post-office Savings* Bank i.s to be at Hokitika. It is rumored tl>e Governor will visit •Westland."
