Hokitira. — The West Coast Times of Saturday reports as follows 1 — A very limited business has been done during the week, the inauguration of the new year having evidently received more attention than heavy transactions in business ; markets consequently remain unaltered. The auctioneers have had an easy week ; we have only to report sale of cargo of the Storm Bird from Launceston, by G W Binriey, alongside, The bulk has been cleared off at following prices :— Flour, Tasmanian, LI 2 10s to Ll3 5s per ton 5 oatmeal, 3Jd and upwards ; oats, 5s 3d ; hay, Ll4; bran, 2s Id ; sharps, Is 8d per bushel 5 potatoes, Lfl per ton ; onions, 2£d ; butter, Is 2d ; currants, o^d per lb ; Barclay's stout, J3s per dozen ; palings, 5 feet, 20s, Bdller River.— -The W&stport Times of the sth instant, reports as follows :— We have nothing new to report specially. Stocks are diminishing and good prices obtained, but there is no opening for any large amount of fresh goods. Articles of consumption are in steady demand, and realise fair payable prices, but there is at present nothing to warrant anything more than reasonable importations. Timber is still required, and 30s per 100 is the least yet asked, in many cases more, The banks are quietly accumulating gold, but none has been shipped since our last issue. The monthly return from the Customs shows that between the 19th and the 31st ult., the sum of LS7Q 9s was collected on imports into Wesport. We heaj of about a hundred tons of pig-iron having been placed atL4. Malt is wanted, but the high prices required by holders check sales. Transactions were reported to be pending this afternoon at 11s Gd. Cornsacks, which since the arrival of the mail have gone out of notice, again begin to attract attention. An offer (if 13s 9d, made for some 200 or 300 bales, was in one instance refused, while in another a similar offer made for a hundred bales was accepted, In teas we learn of the sale of a small parcel of halkchcsts, ex Maori, of fine congous, at 2s 3d, in bond. A parcel of yellow crystal sugar, for brewing, was placed atL3llos. Candles, are. firm at lOjJd, but the demand is not active. Trade sales of Henriessy's case brandy are mentioned at 2Cs, while a shipment of 500 cases was quitted at a somewhat lower figure. Amongst the arrivals we notice the Charlie Palmer and Aurifera, from Calcutta ; and the Krimpenerward, from Batavia. " " ' " '
