Gruy Rivek. Argus Office, . Wednesday evening, Tho amount of revenue received at the Customs on goods cleared for home consumption on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, ' and Wednesday, was as follows:— Saturday, December 29, £27 5s Id ; Monday, December 31, £346 15s 5d ; Tuesday, January 1, nil ; Wednesday, January 2, £2SS 0s 9d. The Wed Goad Times of Saturday reports as follows : — We have very few transactions to note in the import market for the week, arrivals have been light, and the time-honored customs of the season having met with due attention, commercial matters have been neces. sariiy to a considerable extent in abpyance. We have no alteration to chronicle in value of leading articles ; quotations would be precisely as our last. The wholesale houses during the business days have been fairly employed with local trade, as a reference to customs'. returns, for the week will indicate ; several assorted cargoes have arrived towards the close of the 'week, and will, doubtless, give a more defined tone to the market when landod. Stocks are not looked upon as heavy, considering the present healthy state of trade on the West Goast. Bun/Kit Rivek.— The Wcitjwrt Times reports as follows :— We have nothing new to report in business matters generally, further than that the comparatively large stocks recently arrived are moving off fast. The trade to the Pakihi continues good, the Constant, Rapid, and Siar of the Buller readily getting freight enough to keep them regularly employed. One very important item we have this week to note, viz., the first shipment of gold through the Customs here by the Bank of New Zealand. This bank on Monday shipped 1200ozs. iv the Despatch, consigned to the branch at Greymouth, and nearly all of it was got to the northward. The cattle stock brought by the Ahuriri found a ready market at remunerative prices to the impirfcer. Timber is but slightly affected by recent importations, and prices still rule high- The amount of duty collected on Monday at the Customs was LI 50.
