Hokitika. — The West Const Times of Saturday reports as follows : — , Business during the week has been brisk, a considerable amount of goods having changed hands, principally for local trade. Shipments have come forward freely, and been placed without materially .affecting prices. There has been loss demand for goods coastwise, the accounts from the new goldiiulds northward not warranting further ventures until more definite and satisfactory accounts are to hand. Flour continues firm; our last quotation, LI 7, for Adelaide, has been well maintained for trade parcels, with an upward tendency. Oats are plentiful at 5s G<l per bushel- Bran, easier. Chaff, Lls to LI 7 per ton. There is more enquiry for first class brandy. Wines are without alteration. Geneva has scarcely maintained recent quotations. Provisions are in good demand. Hams and bacon, spghtly improved ; Sinclair's and other good brands, are worth Is 4d to Is 5d per lb. Butter, first class is not so plentiful, aud good parcels are realising better prices. Cheese (Canterbury) is scarce, and saleable at Is 2d to Is 3d per 11). Mr (x W Binney reports s^lcs of Taieri oats at 5s Gd per bushel. Chaff, Lls per ton. Potatoes (old), Hi 15s per ton. Onions, 3£d per lb. Butter, Is 2d to Is 3d. Neva -stearine candles, Is 2d ; Brandons Neva. Is Id. Adelaide flour, LIG 7s (id. Tasmauiau jams (Peacock's), in 21b tins, 20s per do/.. Blood's stout, 14s 3d to 14s Cd per doz. Geneva, JDKZ, 13s Gil per ca?e in bond. Also, ;i large assortment of drapery, realising prices fully maintaining previous rates. Messrs Sprot and Craig note a busy week in sales of property and merchandise, having placed at auction first-class hams at Is 4.^1 ; Sinclair's hams, slightly damaged, Is 3.5 d. A parcel of colonial bacon, Is. Canterbury cheese, Is 2.U1. Currants, s£d- Bran, 2s 3d. Claret, 20s per case in bond ; and a considerable quantity of sundries, which call for no remark as to affecting market value?.
