In the market for breadstuff's, sales of Hart's flour are reported atLl3. It is also stated that for Butterworth's LI 2 10s has been got, v and that other country brands are held for^ LI 2. A*. parcel of 2000 bushels of Chilian wheat was placed at, 4s Gd, and for snaller lots holders- now ask .4s 9d. Maize is dull at 3s ll<lto.4s. Tv barley ami oats there is nothingSiiew to . report. At auction, the cargo of the ' Adriatic, consisting of 5319 4 bags of Mauritius sugar, was offeree! for saleffand 3000 bags were- disposed of ; :at prices barely supporting last week'sstrates. Brown's realisedj|s|to 30s 6d ; 32s to 32s 9d for medium yellow*; 335, to 34s for good ;to fine ; 37s to 38s Gd for middling to good white crystals. In rice, . we note a very much improved feeling. A hundred tons of the St Vincent's cargo, in two lines, changed hands for expirt, and a hundred -tons more of the same shipment have been quitted in tn^le parcels at up to L 24 ; and small lots of fine Patna have been placed at L 26 10s to L2G 15s. 3SOO bags of another shipment, per Sfe& Vincent, wore offered by public sals, but thiP biddings, being below the mark, the whole had to be withdrawn. Offers', however,' -have since been made, which lead to the expectation of the entire parcel being; sold .privately. From Calcutta advices to the 7th October have been 1 received. Shipments are consi-dered-favorable. The Aurifera, after bein^ 4'epaired, . had sailed again on September 2f. fee Charlie Palirer, still loading, had on ||4|rd 300 tons. A parcel of about six tons; qfrplantation coffee has been quitted at about? ,9£d. In provisions, sales of. Sinclair's harnsf and bacon arc reported at 13d overhead, and? several parcels of cheese have been placed at 12d. Currants are a shade easier, owirifl to the large quantities (174 tons), advised as on the way ; small parcels have been quitted at 4tl; Sales-'of 'hops have come under our notice, at prices, ranging from Is Gd to Is ••10(1 for 18(55 growth, according to quality. Prices in London have opened out very high, vie, L 9 to Ll2— the crop being very short. Dundee cornsacks have been disposed of at I3s Gd 1 the market, however, is not strong. -Malt has- beni disposed of at 9s Gd, and prjcea-^^likcly to be very finn, •■ In teas, a
large trade has been done, for besides trade sales at prices ranging from Is G to 2s, we hear of the entire cargo of the Peru having' changed hands in a line, at prices fully sustaining current rates. Machenjs stout continues to go into the hands of the trade, at 9s Cd. Younger's bottled stout has been sold at 9s Gd, and for the same brand of bulk stout LG 12s Gd has been realised. Tartaric acid, which has become extremely scarce, has been sold as high as 2s sd. Coke is firmer, only 50 tons appearing %mongst the shipments. Salt is placed at prices rising to L 3 15s for coarse. A parcel of 300 cases of Cozzen's kerosene oil, for immediate delivery, has been quitted at 3s 3d, and 400 cases of Photolite brand h?,ve been quitted at 3s. A shipment of a hundred.: qr-casks of Mehan's whisky has been placed, on terns withheld. Advices from America to the 14th September report the departure, from Boston for Melbourne, on the 14th August, of the Alexanr der, 'with 4000 cases of oil, 12,0001bs of tobacco, and 90,000 feei lumber; and of the Siam, from New York, q&the ISfch August, with 8000 cases of oil anW3so,ooolbs of tobacco. The James Guthrie*, loading at Boston, had 9000 cases of oil on board. The Alpha and Royal Saxon were loading at New York ;theHerchel was loading for Adelaide; the A. W. Stephens for Dunedin ; and the Susan Jane iad left for an outport in New Zealand. From Foo-chow, we learn that the T. E. Boyd antjlthe Tell had left for Melbourne. Ahe Acinel, whose departure for Australia was advised last month, and met with a typhoon, and put into Nagasaki^so much injured as to be unable to bring on her cargo.
