On th.c 3rd inst. a soldier of the 14th Regiment was tried by court-ntartial, at the camp, Ota.hu.hu., for having in the presence of his officers, uttered a violent invective against her Majesty the Queen, He was sentenced to be drummed out of his regiment and imprisoned for five years. The rope having been placed round the offender's neck, " The Rogue's March '- was played, to the tune of which ]ie danced round the camp. Accident. —We regret to have to record a serious accident which occurred to Mr C. Oram, of the Pier Hotel, Kaiapoi, on Saturday «iast. Mr Oram was riding a young filly which had been broken in only a few days, near Messrs Birch and Co.'s store, about noon, when fFsu"ddenly began to buck. Mr Oram retained his seat for some tinie, but was eventually thrown head foremost into the road, where he alighted with his head on a stone, which cut through his hat and made a large wound in- his forehead. After throwing its rider the filly turned round and attempted to kick him whilst on the ground, but several persons going towards Mr Oram it ran away, and was ultimately caught some distance down the road by the groom, Mr Oram was taken up insensible, and removed to the hotel, where every attention was paid him, and we are happy to say that he was able to niove about again on the following day. — *' Lyttelton Times," 13th inst,
