We learn from the W. C. Times that the first meeting of the newly-elected Municipal Council for the town of Hokitika took place at Councillor Williams' Hotel, North Revell street, on Tuesday evening. An unusual amount of interest was excited, and a large number of citizens was present. Mr Williams had obligingly placed the large room of his hotel at the service of the Council, preparatory to measures being taken for its permanent accommodation. The election of a Chairman was proceeded Avith, by ballot, and resulted in the first instance as foil > s : — Bonar, 4 ; Shaw, 4 ; Anderson, 1 . The votes for Councillors Bonar and Shaw >eing equal, a second ballot was taken, boll these gentlemen declining to take part in it The numbers then stood — Bonar, 4 ; Shu •.•, 3. Council J. A. Bonar was therefore pron meed duly elected.
