THE EUROPEAN WAR.
From the Home News, July 2.) THE ARMISTICE. The Paris "Patrio" says the treaty signed at Nikolsburg secures the preservation of the kingdom of Saxony alone : — "The Prussian Governir-nt is entirely free to," incorporate ejthej all or part both of Hanover and Electoral Hesse. At Berlin the incorporation of these States is. regarded as certain. The preliminaries of peace between Austria and Italy make nq mention of the Trent province.- They inertly s.tate, the necessity of establishing
by a definite treaty the frontier line be- 1 tween Italy and Austria." The armistice between the Bavarians and Prussians commences to-day, the 2nd of August, as elsewhere stated, but Colonel Roth was previously sent to Payreuth in order to obtain from the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, who commands the Prussian troops, an immediate suspension of hostilities. The Prussians had continued their advance upon Upper Franconia. The Bavarian " Official Gazette" says : — "We regret to have to announce that a sanguinary engagement has taken place near Weiden, between Prince Charles and General Mantouffel. The officer in command of the Bavarian troops had in vain despatched a flag of truce, calling the attention of the Prussians to the uselessnesg pf further bloodshed. The losses of the Bavarians were considerable." The contribution imposed by Prussia upon the city of Frankfort has been reduced to 15,000,000 florins, of which 6,000,000 have already been paid. A letter from Berlin says that the public movement in favor of Prussian supremacy is getting stronger and stronger. In Dresden, a number of leading politicians, long the avowed friends of Austria, have issued a common declaration, in which the reunion of all Germany under Prussian auspices is declared to be a necessity of the times. Letters and articles advocating the same idea abound in the Wurtemburg and Baden press.
