Hokitika.— The West Coast Times of Satui day reports as follows : — Business for the current week has fully met anticipations, orders from the up-country districts haying come to hand freely, and have kept our wholesale houses well, employed, We have no material change, to note in value of leading articles beyond, a decided firm tone in quotations for every day staples. This feeling has been rather in, creased rthan otherwise by later news from Victoria, per Alhambra. Our stocks are light, and, witli an increasing population, prices, must still nearer assimilate to those ruling in. neighboring markets, to allow, after charges, a trade profit. There has been a better feeling in t the flour market, stocks being light, holders have been firmer — L 22 for Adelaide, and L2l for Cliilian, are now the prices wanted and obtained since late Victorian quotations (on a firm market) — say, for Adelaide, LIG ; .Californian, Lls ss. Holders here have shown no disposition to sell, anticipating better prices. Oats are scarce , and command a high figure, say 10s tol ls per bushel. Supplies supposed to be close at hand, may ease the market; but in the absence of arrivals higher figures may be anticipated. Bran is in good supply, at 2s Sd to 3s. Chaff has been freely offered, ami realised L2O, Provisions and oilmen's stores are not so firm. At a sale held at one of our principal., auction marts, (his week, the following prices were realised, giving a fair reflex of our market : — Neva candles, Is 3jjd ; other brands, Is 2fd ; crushed loaf sugar, 7d; bottled fruits, 15s 9d to 18s } jams, English, lls Gd ; colonial, 11s ;-salmon, lib, 21s: ditto, 21bs, 30s; hams, York, Is 4Ad ; bacon, colonial, Is Id ; raisins, Cape, 9i<l; muscatels, in quarter boxes, Is 14*1 ; currants, Sd ; can-away seeds, Sd pej lb ; pearl barley, 3Ss Gd per cwt ; split peas, 335; -green peas, 2Ss ; oatmeal (Bencraft), 355 ; castor oil, half pints, 10s per doz ; salad oil, 12s Gd ; sardines, halves, 14s. Gil, ami sundry other goods, which were freelytaken {it good prices. Melbourne.— The Argus, of the 7th in*, reports as follows :■— . ' A parcel of 2000, bushels Chilian was quitted at 6s Id, short terms.. Sound maize is held for. prices ranging from 4s 4d to 4s Gd. One parcel of about a thousand bushels was placed at 4s 3Jd.
