(To jjhe Editor of the Grey River Anjus.y Sir— bntlie.lQtli.ic^tftnSl took out in the Resident Magistrate's Court, Greymouth, a summons to ■appear on this date against Mr Anthony Whfte, a police constable in Nelson, "who formerly resided in nvy. licensed house here ; and the mpst material part of the case .having been' decided against me, I shall be glad if you will jillow me room in your columns to publiish" the following fadts;t; .' .i r , Mr White having .a jnion.tii?s leave of absence granted him.' fronr Jtfefsoii, whilst ' in charge. 'of a prisoner, extended that period' to two months, during which tinib he became acquainted with; a gentleman called "Yankee ■ Addams," who recommended him to' board -with me, and also, I believe, got him the temporary, situation . of copyist to .the theatrical' company. After .his boarding with me for some littletime, he suddenly made the discovery that -my rooms were w^tiier' and" much ;inore adapted for sleeping than the ' stage of • Kilgour's .Union Theatre, and thereupon lie canie and had a' rdoriV to Mmself, for. _ which I only charged him the usual rate. Upon my suing him, he addresses a letter to/ Mr Revell, in which he offers to pay r v the; first item, but not the . other, and-|; coolly requests our sagacious MagiatrateS to adjourn the. case'for;:a. fortnight, in thai® event of my non-complianc© with his re-?l| quest, to ; which adjournme^tl was, as I tolcT Mr. itevell, perfectly agreeable, but £ herefuses'to do so, arid "proceeds to award A me judgment fpr only^.the minor part of 4 my claim, stating in effect that what !■ : said " was luiworthy of belief," although • I was on oath at the. time, and such relriarks being; Kighlj'^ prejiiclicial' aha detrimental, 1 -beg; 1 through : your valuably, paper to give them a positive 'and "pubjic. contradiction.
