MELANCftOiY^OpoyRRENCE,— A melarchply .occurrence^ which is repprted iii the Marlbordugh papers received" yesterday, J;ook place at Queen Charlotte's Sound, near.. the Grove, en July 2%. \lt appears - that" Mr Augustus Hood,; owner 1 of th.4 schooner Augusta, ; (which was loaded with timber and- ready to sail) left^the Grove Hotel about 3 o'clock p.m., and -went on board with the mate- and one of the crew. , Shortly afterwards, by Mrllood's orders, part of the crew went^ ashore to transact ■ some business, and themate sent the other part of the crew for fresh water, leaving , Mr. -Hood on board :by himself ;•■■;•_ ln about an 'hour afterwards, when both parties returned, Mr- Hood, jyas missing, and on . •searching the ship could no where be found. - The alarm was soon given ashore f and a search made round tho beach ; but tlieibody Hvas not -found till Hhe following ' day. : . An. inquest was held/on the, body, when: the jury, without retiring, 'returned a verdict of found drowned, but how or by what means np^ evidence appeared. The- deceased has- left' a widowj biit no family. some years a member of 'the Pfovihcial Cbuncilfor Queen "Charlotte's; Sound,; andrit ia' a eihgular coinr .ciclence that, iiavhig- lately" vacated his ssat, John^GreensiHj- Esq., elected Ins successor on the Vanie cfay'as Mr Hood was clrowned.
