(To the Editor of , the Grey River Argils!) Sic, —The rapid extension of the gold fields of the Grey district makes it more;thauever 1 necessary-that another Warden should be speedily appointed. -It is iyrpqssible.that the . prcserit'aiid only Warden, Mr,Revell, whois alio Resident Magistrate of Greymouth, can devote tli& necessary; time .ami Jitterition to the special duties of a gold fields' Warden of jin important district like/that of the 'Grey.; "if one but those who have lived, on the out-, lying.gold fields can. comprehend] the incon venience and losses to which the miners are subjected, owing to the distance* they have;to ; travel in order to get their numerous disputes settled. - Many,of the.diggings. 'have never seen the face of a Warden,/while others,.and most important'ones; have been but very rarely visited.- Take^Madri Gully,.for instance^ the' -Warden has only-beeiTthere oiice, and on that occasionvonly^as, a;yisitor tat:.the, christening of a ■\\'ater:racej "six month's ago. l German Gully, Italian Gully, and other places iv the."Arnold 'district, have" neveri had a' Warden near-them; and the Greenstpne has been many months similarly neglected. ' Tp say nothing of the injury the miners sustaindirecety, it is impossible that the Government can be made fully aware of.the necessities of these out-lying places. J; am _ positive .that no more wise step could W taken 'in .ithfe^di^ rection of encouraging the development of the" Grey? district than" -the appointmentof 'an 1 efficient Warden, who should !be able' to make periodical visits to all the diggings: iThecostof' ; such an office would-be more than repaid by • 'the revenue, that would follow: from a'close' inspection hf the diggings, and the encouragement that official attention would afford.' Look at the Nelson poirtion of the district." There are already -tjwfo Wardens;\and a'third has been; decided on for, the vlnangahna, Every, digger on this side is alive' to the rie-! cessity I have pointed out, and you would be conferring^, great;benefit fqn thqjdistriot,'if. .you would use -your pen in, urging .the Government to take immediate steps to appoint another W^rdeiv for the Grey dis^rifit.
