' The busiijess of the past two days has presented very little of interest, and but for a little demand for country requirements would nave bcoa very slack. Flour stands nominally at l.ist. quotations, but the transactions in imported have been insignificant. Teas and sugars have been dealt in at fully maintained prises, but not in heavy parcels. The markets are without any alteration calling for special uotice. " CHUJSTCBy^PH.— The Press; of the 30th ult, reports) — . . The past week has not shown any' signs of more activity in commercial matters than proceeding weeks, but if anything business has been duller amongst the -mercantile houseß, and the difficulty of quitting parcels .of good's is very great. Retail buyers are extremely cautious in their operations, and are afraid to. buy "heavily, and only lay in. small lots to assort stocks. Sugars keep up their 'prices "at the late advance, and new fruits are in,sljght demand, but the quality of some, sorts is inferior. Teas of good quality are enquired for ; medium and Tow congous are in full supply. Hams, baccn and cheese stand at the slight reduction' noted last week. Candles maintain Is Gd per lb for full weights, and common tallow at 7d. Tallow is readily quitted at 35a tP 40s per cwt. Soap is scarce. In the breadstuff market, flour maintains late quotations, viz., LI 6 per ton, with easy terms ; second quality, Ll4 10s. Bran and sharps are in good demand, and have advanced 20s per ton during the week. We now quote L7toL 7 5b for bran, and liß 103 fpr sharps, Wheat is bought in small quantities at 5s per bushel. Oats were brisk early 'in the week, aud s 6s 6d was given, but they receded on Saturday to Cs, with/limited offers. Beans are enquired, for at 63 to 7s per bushel, and peas are readily quitted at Gs. - Hay is in fair demand at last we?k : s prices, Potatoes are firmer, and may be quoted 5s per ton advance. In the stock market a fair amount of cattle were, yarded on Sr.t irday, and extreme prices obtained for milch cows.; L2O each for medium quality ; inferior tlo, Ll4 to Ll7. Store cattle were also readily quitted at an advance on late pric.s. In horses little is doiug, and few sales, gxcej \ among dealers, take i)lace, prices are thereto clow, Debtoks and Creditors Act. — The following information relative to the working of this Act has been received by Mr J. S. Graham, the Inspector in Bankruptcy in Christchurch. The case wa3 first considered iii Chamber in Dunedin, before his Honor Mr Justice Chapman, on the 22nd of June. The -hearing was postponed, so that his Honor Mr Justice Richmond.- Judgment was finally delivered on the' 17th of July by his Honor Mr Justice Richmond. In re W. H. Dansey,' a debtor— Mr Maddock, one of the trustees, moved for -direction as to the administration of the^estate on the. following points :— First, "Whether trustees are to deal with this estate as a sequestrated estate within, the meaning of the Debtors and Creditors Act Amendment Act, 1565, Clause 2.** Secondly,- •'Whether creditors for salary or wages should have priority over other creditors to an extent not exceeding half, a year's salary or wages." Thirldly, " Whether,the sums mentioned in Clause 39 of Act 10, 1862, ought to be paid by trustees. " Fourthly, '• Whetber^tbe fees ..referred to in Clause 28 of Act 18C5, . should be paid by trustees," The following judgment was . delivered-:— To the first question. 't'Yes." To the second, as to such as have not signed the deed, "Yes," as to such as have signed, /' No." To the third and .fourth, "Yes."
