The object of the ComjKiny is the construction of a large water race, capable of supplying water for sluicing purposes at a sufficient altitude to V command the whole range"of auriferous terraces and gullies in the Arnold and adjacent districts. It has been proved beyond question that these terraces and gullies are not only very extensive, but also exceedingly rich, but the want of water has hitherto prevented their development, In all cases where water has been available very x^rofitable results have accrued to the owners of the few small races that have been enabled to obtain a sux>ply. It has been found, however, that the local streams are quite insufficient for the requirements of the district, and that the supply must be obtained from a distant source. . The present Company was originated for the purpose of endeavoring tp discover au abundant supply of water from such an altitude as would make it available for the most elevated terraces iri the district, in the conviction that should these conditions be fulfilled, immense advantages would accrue to the mining community, and that the un cl ertakiiig would x>roye exceedingly profitable. The district of Lake Brunner suggested itself as the most likely source of supply, and accordingly W. J. Bull, Esq., Surveyor, and Mr Job Savage, the Company's Manager, made a thorough examination of the Lake and its neighborhood. They succeeded in finding an unfailing supply of water in the Hohonu lviyer, which can be brought in at an elevatipn sufficient to command the whole of the gold fields lying between Lake Brunnsr and the Arnold on the one hand, and the Greenstone on the other. In the great and x>rofitable results of the I Company's undertaking the j>romoters have j the utmost confidence, and^ their opinion is supported by that of the miners and storekeepers in the district, who have most liberally assisted in carrying out the preliminary arrangements of the Company. It is proi>osed to construct the race of such a capacity asto supply from 30 to 40 slvice heads of water, the length of the race being about 20 miles. The construction of the race will be immediately commenced, and it is expected to be completed iri about four months. The advantages offered by this Comx)any may be summed up as follows :— 1. The unfailing supx^ly of a large quantity of water to an extensive area of auriferous ground, and the; consequent increase of mining prosperity. 2. Economical management, and large profits, the former being estimated to cost not exceeding £30 per week, and the latter to produce fully 100 per cent per anium on the capital. 3. . Valuable Water Right, which being the first right from an unfailing source no question of protection, &c, can aflect it. The promoters bind themselves not to offer any of their own shares till the remainder are disposed of at not under par, thus preventing any dex>rcciation of the stock by,theiii. The Company reserves to itself the ox>tion of taking up ground and working it for the ikbenefit of the shareholders. v »> Api>lication for shares can be. made in the form to Messrs Maclean, Fisher aud ■0., Greymouth, E.
