Five Devonshire Murderesses. — The annals of the Devon Lent Assizes of 1856. probably have no parallel. Five women were at one time within the county ■ gaol at Exeter, who han been guilty of i murder, ascomplished or ''attempted.. Charlotte Winsor, most notorious of child slayers, there, awaits the hangman's fourth approach. There, too, was Mary Jane Harris, her. accomplice, and who is a murderess none tne, less because, by placing the halter" on the neck of Winsor^ i she has lifted it from her own. There, • again, was Alice Dodd, whose propensity t for poisonins: well nigh resulted in the death of five victims.
