The Grey IJjver Abg*:s Office, Wednesday Evening. The total amount of- revenue received at the Custom House, Greymouth, on goods cleared for homo consumption, for the first . three days of this week, was— Monday, 2Sth, L 203 2s 9d; Tuesday, 29th, L 397 Us 5d Wednesday, 30th, Ll 7 4s Cd. Hokitika. — The West Coast Times o". Friday reports as follows : — Pi ices for staple articles have been not only well maintained but improved upon, with the exception, perhaps, of Hour, which remains near our last quotations with a slight downward tendency — say, for Adelaide, Lll to L 23; Chillian, LIG to LI 7 per ton. Oats remain linn at 6s Cd to 6s 9d per bushel; other kinds of horse feed unaltered. Brandies in bulk. — Firit-class brands haverealised a further advance of 9d to Is per gallon, and continue very scarce ; less favorite brands have to some extent participated in the improvement. Other spirits have scarcely move 1 from our last prices. Wines have been freely placed, without .alteration. Beer in glass is dull ;. first-class bulk is saleable. Provisions continue scarce. Frst-class hams, bacon, and butter, fetch excellent prices. Candles. -^F. W. have considerably .advanced, and, judging from quotations in the Melbourne and Dunedin markets, good prices are likely to continue here. We regret to announce that a. rumoj: has prevailed during the day, which there is reason to believe is authentic, that Mr C. L. Throckmorton has I" filed his schedule in Christchurch. Pkabita. — There has been a gen^djoJr ness in business here for tho^Bpßßrdullfew houses stiirco^jty^gß^ast week. A usttaLßupplie^|(Pß!Hrto forward the | e i&tftffloPl^!o the various beaches, Gild^^^P^eemingly receiving the. most attenat present, but the town retail trade I has been gradually decreasing for weeks. The consumption of flour, among other articles, may be reckoned at one-sixth of what it was in the township during the month of March. Fair prices are obtainable for mcist articles, though the matter of raised freights, coupled with the high quotations now being received from Melbourne and Dunedin, whence the bulk of our imports must originally be derived, have not yet been considered, or, at least, have not affected to any extent the ruling prices. No auction sales of importance have taken place for some weeks. Best Adelaide flour is selling L3l to L 32 per ton ; while Chilian may be quoted at from Llo to L 25 per ton, according to brand and qualitj r . Oats still maintain the price of 10s per bushel ; whilst. bran and chaff have risen — the former from 4s to Gs per bushel, and the latter from 28s to 40s per cwt. English porter (best brands), from 20s to 22s Gd per dozen, duty paid. Bottled ales, 18s to 20s per dozen. Hcnnessy's and Martell's brandy, in case and bulk, are a good deal inquired for,- and the consumption is considerable. Good butter is scarce, and fetches readily 2s 6d to 2s 8d per lb. Hams and bacon command the same price as formerly, about 2s 6d per lb. The excessive freights which are charged for goods from Hokitika to this port, a distance of fifty miles, must necessarily enhance the value of certain commodities ; and, when compared with Duuedin freights direct, which are at one-fourth the rate, they appear so extravagant that, for the sake of all parties, an alteration is most urgently desireJ. — Wattland-Observcr and Okarlki Times, ' May 26.
