Wellington.— The Independent, of the 12th instant, says : — Trade since our last summary lias been confined to limited sales, in consequence of the small stocks of most articles of general consumption. So many overdue vessels from London has had the effect of enabling merchants to clear off nearly .ill ild stock, and but for the timely arrival of the Black .Swan, prices for many articles would have advanced considerably. This vessel is now discharging her cargo, and most of her goods have already been disposed of at satisfactory rates. Apparently the cargo is landing in very bad order, and no doubt a quantity of merchandise will be sold for the benefit of whom it may concern. Provisions of nil kinds are very scarce. English hams and bacon, none in the market; sales have been made to arrive jit Is Sd p.erlb. Colonial hams and bacon .arc now gcttivg more plentiful ; Is 2d 13 the figure asked, but in a week or two the price, no doubt, will be down to Sd and Is per lb, as the new cure is coming in rapidlyj^^iijjlisl^heese^ione: Hl^|^BP^^s4d; Wellington, Is 2d. Butter, colqnial cured, Is 9d ; Cork, none. Hay, LI per ton, and likely to advance very considerably. Potatoes, L 5. Oafcs, 4s 6d. Beef, 4d, Flour, Lll to L2O. , Candles have been very scarce, and worth Is sd ; the price has now receded to Is 3d. Fruits, ex Black Swan, have been sold at high rates.
