The local obituary of the "SouthEastern Gazette " of one day contains the names of 12 persons whose united ages amount to 982 yea s — an average, within a small fraction, of 82 years each. . What was an alarming, but might have been a most calamitous accident, has just taken place at Darlington. A great structure, known as the Rise Oair. Ironworks, was blown down, as it would appear, by the force of the wind. The entire building, it is said, "lite"ally collapsed." Yet only one life was sacrificed. The workmen, to the number of 170, were out on a strike, and thus a dispute about wages saved their lives.
