crowded houses. I We are informed that abridge is forthwith to be constructed over the lagoon at the end of Arney street which will reduce the distance between Greymouth and the places to the sQ§£h by fully a mile, and at the same time enable coaches and drays to travel without having to ford the lagoon .at the site of the existing bridge at Blaketown. The bridge is to be constructed by a company, who have made arrangements to compensate the present owner of the ferry. We learn that Professor Neumayer, of Melbourne, the illustrious meteorological observer, purposes at an early date to visit the West Opast, in the interests of the Victorian Government. Very general complaint is made by the trading community of Greymouth of the great inconvenience caused by the insufficient powers of the managers of the various Bank .agencies.. The extent of the trade[of this porj; fully justifies the establishment of branch banks, in place of the mere agencies which now transact the banking business of Greymouth, and we feel sure we are only expressing the opinion of all members of the commercial community in stating that the present banking facilities are utterly inadequate tp the legitimate requirements of the port. We have for some days past npticed a very steady influx of diggers arriving here and as quietly dispersing. We have ql&o heard from parties o\\ the South. Beach that great numbers of men have been steadily wending their way northwards, ami from inquiries made o* them, they arenotcomingpn mere speculation, but from advices received or heard of, We kuow, because it has been publicly talked of throughout the town, that great numbers have gone up the Saltwater Creek (for a long time back the hoped for new golden region) ; and we believe that good prospects have there been obtained. We notice that on Saturday next a large quantity of fruit trees and planta^ll be sold by Messrs Wilso||| ! Burnell, and Co>} at Hokitika,. This will be a favorable opportunity for those who are making gardens to stock them with fruit trees. We gather the farther proceedings in re. Lyons and Princes' insolvency from the Ly Melton Times: — "In the Debtors and Creditors Act, in re Prince and Lyons : Mv Duncan applied for an order nisi to show cause why some goods now in the possession of the interim sequestrator should not be attached. His Honor observed that the proper course to pursue would be to bring an action against the purchaser of the goods, but he could not see that Mr Duncan was in a position to obtain an order. Notice must be given to the receiver that if he cloejj||ot surj render the goods in qiiestion, an action would.
