A man named George Challis has met with a severe accident at the Spanish restaurant. While in an epileptic fit he fell downstairs, and now lies in a precarious state. The weaJther has cleared up beautifully. A company has been formed here styled ■“The New Zealand Electric Light and Dower Company,” to work the Brush, Dane, Pox, and other systems. Inconsequence of Captain Underwoods rretirement, the following changes in the Union Company’s service are announced : Captain Carey is transfered to the Eotomahana. Captain McGee to the Te Anau, Captain Jones to the Eotorua, Captain Bernich to the Mahinapua, Captain Allman to the Southern Cross, Captain Kennedy gets the Hauroto, Captain McGillivray taking the Hawea, Captain Mclntosh the Hero, Captain Webster the Omapere. Captain Anderson resumes the-command of the Penguin, which has been re-commissioned after a •complete overhaul. BLUFF, December 29. The Eotomahana sails at 4 p.m. for Melbourne. Captain Underwood, of that vessel, proceeds to England in February to take the marine superintendency of the New Zealand Shipping Company s fleet, .and to superintend the building of three new fast steamers by Messrs Elder and Co., .each 4000 tons, for the New Zealand trade.
