By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. [rettter's telegrams.] Received December 27th, 0.50 a.m. MELBOURNE, December 26. The oratorio " The Messiah " was performed at the choral festival last night, and was a great success. The audience numbered fully 8000 persons, and the band and chorus 1400. The cricket match between the Victorian and New South "Wales elevens was resumed to-day, when the visitors, with one wicket down for 76 runs to their credit, continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 247. The highest scorers were—A. Bannerman 78, W. L. Murdoch 71, and Spofforth 31. At the close of the day's play the home team in their second innings had scored 60 runs for the loss of one wicket.
