ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The above Board met on Friday, December 22nd, when the chairman, Messrs Munro and Cooper were present. Mr MeNamara interviewed the Board, requesting a. settlement of his claim. He was informed that the Board adhered to its -original offer. The following correspondence was received :—From Mr Charles Euglefield, stating the conditions on which -the Board could remove gravel from land in his occupation. The clerk was directed to accept Mr Euglefleld’s offer. From the on-dneer of Drainage Board relative to the disposal of stuff excavate'! from the drain on Canal Reserve road. From Mr ’ W. H. Allen, requesting permission to erect a swing gate on a road in the sandhills near the Waimakariri. Granted. From Mr W. H. Allen, desiring that the reserve rented by Mr J. Silvester he transferred to him. From ine Railway Traffic Manager, re trucks standing on the railway line at Chaney’s Corner. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that the piece of land at the corner of Hill’s and Briggs’ road was under the con±roJ of the Road Board. The clerk was
directed to serve a notice on Mr Martin Burns to remove all buildings, &c., Horn the land in question within two months, or the penalties expressed in the Public Works Act will be enforced. From Mr E. Reece, ie the covering down with clay those places from whence the Board has been taxing sand. Prom Mr P. T. Haskins requiring to know on whose authority the road near the schoolhouse at Papanui had been formed. Prom the Selwyn County Council offering one-half of the fees arising from the registration of dogs if the Board will undertake the collection of the whole. Th® clerk was directed to reply accepting the offer. Mr Munro brought the question of the small birds nuisance before the Board. On discussion the Board decided to defer taking any action in the" matter for the present. Mr Cooper urged the necessity of a bridge across Dudley Creek at its junction with the Elver Avon. It was resolved that the matter should be considered at some future time. Mr Munro drew the attention of the Board to inaccuracies in the roll as to the properties *f Mr Jesse Englefield and Mr William Allott. Accounts amounting to £239 5s 5d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
