CHRISTCHURCH CATHEDRAL BELLRINGERS.

The first annual meeting of the above society was held at 8 o’clock last evening, in the ringing chamber of the Cathedral tower. The Rev. E. A. Lingard (president), occupied the chair. About twenty members were present. The Chairman reported that the application to the Cathedral Chapter for half of the shilling proceeds from visitors ascending the Cathedral tower on ringing days was refused, on the ground of paucity of funds.

The statement of receipts and expenditure for the past year was submitted by the chairman, by which it appeared that .£56 16s lOd had been received, .£52 17s expended, leaving a cash balance of .£3 19s lOd. The assets and liabilities of the society were .£4 19s lOd and £7 5s respectively. The accounts as presented were unanimously adopted, on the motion of Mr Sandford, seconded by Mr Beechey. It was determined that one dozen copies of the photographs of the Cathedral bellringers on its opening day he procured from Mr Schourup. Mr P. S. Parker is the master ringer for IBS3, but the unanimous wish of those present was that Mr Andrews, the pastmaster, retain the position, which he declined on the grounds “ that so far as the general public were concerned the bells were wished at the , well, the bottom of the sea, and were declared a regular nuisance,” besides the Cathedral Chapter had not kept faith with the ringers as to replacing the louvres. Several members followed, and the opinion was. freely expressed that the Chapter had shown scant courtesy to the ringers in the matter. The President replied that the Chapter were quite willing to alter the louvre hoards, but had no funds.

Mr Beechy was elected secretary, Mr J. S'. Colegrove treasurer, Messrs Marriott, Hall, Saudford, and Jennings being elected committeemen. This was all the business.
