FIRE AT FOXTON.
[press association telegram.] POXTON, December 19. A serious fire occurred here at one o’cloct this morning, when Mr T. P. Williams’ store was burned to the ground, and all the stoct destroyed. The stoct was estimated at over .£2OOO, and the building was a very old one and insured for £250. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery. George Williams, the proprietor’s brother, sleeps on the premises, and when he retired at eleven last night everything was safe. The fire was no sooner observed than the whole building was a mass of flames, preventing anyone approaching it. Only a few pounds of tobacco were saved. The Primitive Methodist Church, on the north side, and the old Custom House, on the south, -were saved with difficulty, there being fortunately no wind at the time. The correct insurances are—South British £SOO, and National £1250, of which £4OO were reinsured in the Scottish Imperial and £250 in the United, making a net loss to the National Company of £SOO.
