ANNIVERSARY DAY.

The anniversary of the Province was celebrated in true holiday style on Saturday. A very large number of visitors were present at the Caledonian gathering on Lancaster Park, some 4000 having paid for admission ; a goodly number attended the popular sports at Hagley Park, whilst picnics, excursions, &c., were organised to various places. Sumner was especially well patronised, Mr Hayward’s seven coaches being fully employed all day. In the evening the fireworks display attracted a large number of people.
