DUNEDIN v. CARISBROOK
[press association telegram.] DUNEDIN, December 17. The Carisbrook Eleven heat the Dunedin Eleven, composed almost exactly of the same players as those which recently met the Auckland team here, and got soundly beaten by an innings and over 100 runs.
LANCASTER PARK C.C. v MIDLAND C.C. This cup match was concluded on Saturday, and resulted in an easy victory for the Lancastrians, a considerable surprise to many knowing ones. That club the previous Saturday had lost six wickets for 87 runs, as against 133 scored hy the Midland in their first innings. The last four wickets Lancaster Park added 37 to their score, thus making the total 124, through the exertions of Messrs H. H. Loughnan and W. H. Atack, both of whom played a free innings. The match was now anybody’s, only 9 runs dividing the two scores, but tho Midland in their second innings cut up very badly indeed, and all disappeared for the absurdly small score of 35. Mr Buchanan, indeed was the only batsman who made any stand at all, and he, hy careful play, ran up 14 against the excellent howling brought to bear on him—for the Lancastrian howlers were “ up in their stirrups.” Lancaster Park had now only 45 to win, but in getting that number they lost five wickets, for their strongest men wore not put in first, and when they did appear, did not seem inclined to score. However, it was little likely that two elevens could collapse in one afternoon, and a hit from Wilding gave their third cup victory to the younger club. Annexed is the score and bowling analysis :
