ASHBURTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council took place on Monday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Cra. Bird, Friedlander, Harrison, Ivess, Nelson, J. Orr, Eoherts, and St. Hill. The Chairman stated that the overdraft at the Bank now stood at £IOB2 Is lOd, and that the total amount received for rates up to date was £llOB 9s lOd. Correspondence was read from Mr T. Bullock enclosing account sales of reserves let hy auction. Prom Messrs Cullen and Dally asking for a refund of fees paid by them for a second carrier’s license. Application refused. From Mr A. Curtis, on behalf of the Athletic Sports Ground Company, offering 3d per load for a quantity of earth for filling up a section of land. After some discussion the Council decided not to entertain the application. The engineer reported the progress Jof various works, amongst them being the commencing operations for kerhing and channelling on the west side of the railway lino. The clerk reported the re-election of Mr D. Williamson as Mayor. Cr. Ivess congratulated his Worship on his reelection, and in reply the Mayor thanked Cr., Ivess and the Council for their expressions of good will towards him, and stated that he would always strive to do his duty to the Council and the Borough generally. The tender of Mr Davidson for the valuation of the Borough property for the sum of £23 was accepted, as was also that of Mr J. Hoseltine for re-badging dog collars at 2id and supplying new ones at Cd each. On the motion of Cr. Eoberts the question of the erection of horse troughs in convenient parts of the Borough was left in •the hands of the works committee. A number of licenses wore granted, and after passing accounts the Council adjourned.
