COURTENAY A AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The fifth annual show of the Courtonay Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday at Kirwee. Tho Association are to be congratulated upon having 1 acquired their own show ground, which is eight acres in extent, and situate close to the Kirwee Railway Station. Tho ground has been put into proper condition, and was used for the first time for show purposes yesterday. Hitherto the Association have beean indebted to Mr Fairbairn for the use of his paddock for the annual exhibition, but now that its own freehold has been acquired, there is abundance of ground for hope that the society has a long and annually increasing sphere of usefulness in the future. In a district so eminently fitted for the growth of wool, and also for large framed sheep, that will pass after death into the freezing chambers of almost every vessel that leaves our shores in the future, it is needless to say that good specimens of all that the Courtenay district can produce in the way of sheep were shown, the judicious cross between merino and Lincoln being well represented in every class, whilst the Leicester rams shown by Mr G. Seaton and Messrs Maxwell and Mathias were all grand sheep, but the season is against show condition, the wool handling very dry. In the cattle classes the children of that really first-class bull Kingsweir showed in excellent form. The draught horses were very good indeed, Prince Royal's stock being t.o the fore. The thoroughbreds and hackucys were well represented as regards .numbers. In tho butter classes a host of good exhibits were shown, and as regards farm produce the exhibits of rye grass seed by Messrs McGregor and Sheate were first tho samples being heavy and free from dust. Appended is the PBIZE LIST. Sheep Judges : Messrs James Johns, John McLeod, and C. Withel. Best Leicester ram, over eighteen months old; three entries. Ist prize, G. Seaton; 2nd and highly commended.
