THE DUNEDIN AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
[press association telegram.] DUNEDIN, November 23.
The show to-day was highly successful, and as a whole certainly deserves to be called the best ever held here. For the first time in the history of the Association they have had fine weather both days for the gathering. The country people flocked into town in great numbers. To-day horses, dairy produce, and New Zealand manufactures were judged. There was a fair show of draught horses. The champion entire was awarded to Mr John Russel’s Extinguisher, a two-year-old. Mr Menlove, of Oamaru, forwarded no stock this year, Mr Charters and Mrs Nimmo, of the Taieri, and the Hon. M. Holmes, of Oamaru, being the principal exhibitors. There was great excitement over the decision in dry mares. Mr Allison, of Southland, took first prize, and a portion of the crowd hooted, whilst others cheered in opposition. Dairy produce was not so good as usual. In New Zealand manufactures, the Kaiapoi and Mosgiel Woollen Factories competed in tweeds and coatings, with the result that the prize was awarded to Kaiapoi. This provoked a protest from the manager of the Mosgiel Company, who stated that one of the judges, a Dunedin tailor, was so well known to have an opposition to the company that had the company known ho would be a judge they would not have shown. In thoroughbreds Le Loup, Cassivelaunus, Ringleader, and Satirist met, and the first prize was awarded to Le Loup.
