MELBOURNE, November 24.
A trial of the electric light at the Spencer street railway station took place last night. A section arc and forty incandescent lamps were in position, and the trial was completely successful. Subsequently Sir Julius Vogel entertained a large number of guests at supper, when the room was brilliantly lighted with incandeg scent lamps. SYDNEY, November 24. At the recent special general meeting of the members of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, the amendments of the by-laws providing for changes in the mode of the election of officers and the distribu-
tion of the profits, &c., as proposed by the Board, were agreed to. After the distribution of next year’s surplus thf»-.x»’ofits of the Society will be divided annually, instead of quinquennially, as heretofore.
