Kaiapoi New Bbidge. —A design under the motto of “ Kaiapoi,” out of four competitive designs sent in, was approved by the Borough Council on Tuesday evening. The design was by Mr Otto Peez, and was of an ornamental character in iron and stone work, the river to be spanned in four arches, and a lift opening in the centre. This design exceeded the estimates of the Council, but if the work could be carried out at Mr Peez’s estimate, and the plan meets the approval of the Government engineer, this design will receive the premium of £SO. The second design in the order of merit, in the opinion of the Council, was a much plainer looking structure, with four spans inclusive of a swing portion, which came within the Council’s estimate, and bore the motto “ Iron.”
