At the inquest on the body of George Savage at Kihikihi, a verdict of death by disowning was returned. There was no marks of violence, so the story of murder by a Native was exploded. The assault ease, C.C.McMillan v. Cornewall, of the South Sea Islands, was further adjourned till Friday. intelligence has been received of the drowning of Captain F. J. Byland, Late mate of the brigantine Clansman, by I eing washed overboard from the brigantine Bannockburn on the voyage from Brisbane to Adelaide.

In the Appeal Coxxrt to-day the case of Reynolds v Napier was conclxxded, judgment being reserved. To-morrow another Dunedin case, Connor v Mackay, will be taken.
The girl Annie Preebody was sxxrrendei'ed to his Honor Mr Justice Richmond in Chambers this morning, by virtue of a writ of habeas corpus, and afterward delivex’ed over to the custody of her sister. The ketch Elizabeth, which went ashore near the entrance to the Otaki river recently, has been launched into the river, and does not seem to have received any injury.
The cargo of frozen meat for the ship Lady Jocelyn, which is to load here in Peb-ruax-y, is already secured, applications having been received from shareholders alone for space in excess of that at the disposal of the Wellington Meat Export Company.
The erection of a lighthouse at Waipapa Point, Otago, will shortly bo px-oceeded with. The tower will be constructed of totara and kauri, and the Government steamer Stella will leave here with a portion of the material eaidy next month. The light will be one of the second order, white, with a flash every ten seconds. The apparatus has been ordered from home, and is expected to arrive before the tower is ready. Mr Whiting, who is to have charge of the works, will leave by the Stella. Waipapa Point is the spot where the steamer Tarai'ua was wrecked. GREYMOUTH, November 21.
Some surprise is felt here that the tender of the Brunner mine for supplying 3000 tons of coal annually to the Otago Harbor Board has not been accepted. Last year the Westport Coal Company had the contract, but the Brunner this year tendered lower, and instead of being accepted it is referred to the engineer to report upon, on the ground that the Westport Coal Company’s coal is better for steam purposes. The Brunner deny this, and are prepared i o give any guarantee that the Greymouth coal is equal, not superior, for steam purposes.

TIMAEU, November 21. A man named Arthur Hine, residing near Geraldine, was killed by a fall from Lis horse on Monday evening.
DUNEDIN, November 21. A fatal accident occurred to-day toThomas Sayers, aged sixteen years, in the employment of Mr Ritchie, baker, of Port Chalmers. He was in the act of backing the horse into the shafts of the cart when the animal rushed forward, and whilst he was trying to stop it the horse plunged and kicked him in the chest. He was immediately carried into a house close by, and a messenger despatched for Hr. Drysdale, but before that gentleman arrived life was extinct.
Three men, dismissed from the locomotive department, sent in apologies admitting their insubordination, and undertaking in future to abstain from any action that would promote discontent among their fellows. They have accordingly been reinstated at a lower rate of pay. The funeral of the Late Mr J. Seaton toot olacc to-day at Portohello. There was a arge gathering present, including Messrs Montgomery, Macandrew, and seven other members of the House of Representatives ; also, the Hon. Reynolds and Captain Fraser. Further entries received for the show which begins to-morrow, make them out number last year. It is expected to be most successful. Great interest will be taken in the contest in merinos between the Hon. R. Campbell and Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co.
“ Boceaeio,” produced last night by the Simonson’s Opera Company, is well spoken of by all the papers, and is likely to draw good houses ail the week. Archibald Forbes begins his lectures the week after next, and McCabe, the great ventriloquist, opens on December Sth, making a stay in Dunedin of one month.
The .annual meeting of the Mosgiel Woollen Company took place to-day, and the directors’ report recommending a dividend of 10 per cent, was adopted. The representatives of the Right Worthy Grand Lodge of Australasia, 1.0.G.T., have arrived to attend the session which opens here to-morrow. They were welcomed at a soiree to-night. There are three from Australia and two from Christchurch.
