The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Friday, November 17th, were as follows :—Spirits, .£3-11 10s lOd; tobacco, ,£lO3 Os 6d; wine, £2l 6s; sugar, £35 14s lid; tea, £65 16s 2d; goods by weight, £143 lls sd; ad valorem, £lB 11s ; other duties, £73 2s 3d. Total, £716 13s Id. PROPERTY SALE. . Messes H. Matson and Co. held a sale of properties at their rooms, Cashel street, fon Saturday last. The attendance was numerous, but biddings somewhat wanting in animation. Quarter-acre of land, together with house, situated in Crescent road, Knightstown, sold for £IOO. Six acres land, together with a seven-roomed house, with tannery, plant, &c., situate at Woolston, was passed in at a bid of £2OOO and two acres land, situate at the Southbridge Junction, were passed in at a bid of £SO per . acre. . GAIRN AND PRODUCE. Business during the past fortnight has been exceedingly quiet, with a generally downwards tendency. Wheat is offering in several lots at 4s 3d, but buyers appear disinclined to exceed 3s 9d to 4s, according to quality and place of delivery. Owing to the dullness of. the flour trade, millers are more disposed to sell than buy wheat, a position certainly not expected some months ago. Flour is very depressed at £9 to £ll, according to brand. Oats move off quietly for local consumption at 3s 4d to 3s 5d for really good samples, and 3s for ordinary lots. In barley there appears to be nothing doing. Potatoes are somewhat easier, and there is more disposition to place balance of stocks. The contrast between this season and last is such as few interested in the trade will forget. Butter has declined to Bd. Prime old cheese are still asked for at full rates. Hams and bacon are in excellent demand, and some curers seek an advance. From South African files we extract the following regarding the harvest prospects there The rains of the past few days have insured the safety of the oats and barley, and a little more rain during this and next month would save the rye and wheat, so that there is every appearance of our having an early and fairly abundant harvest.”
