MIDLAND C.C. t. ADDINGTON C.C. This match was concluded, on Saturday, and resulted, as was expected, in a one inning’s victory for the Midland. The previous Saturday, it will be remembered, they had remained all day at the wickets, scoring 252, with nine wickets down. On resuming, only 2 runs were added to the score, which were credited to Mr Fowke, who carried out his bat for the fine score of 86. The Addington team made but a poor show against the bowling of Messrs Puller and Barnes, the former of whom was particularly deadly. All their wickets fell for 50 runs, Mr Wheatley with 17, not ont, being the only man who ran into double figures. Of course a follow-on was necessary, and in their second innings the Addingtonians were slightly more successful, putting together 73, Mr Turner with 27, and Mr Taylor with 12, being the principal scorers. Both these men played steadily for their runs, the bowling of Messrs Barnes, Edear, and Puller being well on the wicket. The fielding of the Midland was good, Mr Barnes in particular being very active at slip, and making more than one gallery catch. Subjoined is the eoore : MIDLAND C.C. First Innings. E. Barnes, cH. Cotter ill played a good innings of 22 not out, and Mr Higgins made 10. The score of U.C.C.C. totalled 130, leaving Lancaster Park 33 to the rear. The home team, however, were not to be denied, and managed to put together 175, chiefly owing to the tine batting of Mr Reeves, who made 83, with only one chance. He was loudly cheered at the conclusion of his performance, and was carried into the pavilion. Of the other Lancaster Park men Mr Dunlop made 11, Mr W. Frith 17, and Mr P. Loughnan, redeveloping some of that form which made him a shining light in the club of Reading, England, put together an excellently made 25. The bowling of the United was good, but their fielding, particularly in a certain spot facing the wickets, was not up to the mark. The full score will be given at the conclusion of the match. R. Mathias, Lowry, and Harman, leaving the College 65 to win, which they succeded in doing as stated above with the loss of only two wickets.
