CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, November 18. [Before J. Ollivier, Esq., R.M.] Burnham School Children. —J. J. Dowey, in arrears £4 4s for the maintenance of his children at Burnham, was brought up on warrant. He pleaded poverty, and the case was adjourned for four weeks. Larceny.— Patrick Ryan, on remand from the 17th inst., was charged with stealing wearing apparel. John Bain deposed that he had been room-mate with prisoner at King’s Restaurant, and on Saturday, November 11th, he missed some clothes from a bag which was in the room. He had since seen some of the things at Stewart’s pawnbroker’s shop. The articles were worth about £2. Edward Payntor, assistant to S. Stewart, pawnbroker, stated that the prisoner had pawned with him the articles produced. The prisoner was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour.
