THE TEMPERANCE HOTEL.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —My regard for the success of the Temperance Hotel, and a love of that “ fair play ” which is pre-eminently characteristic of Englishmen, were the sole reasons that prompted my reply to “ Shareholder’s” first letter. That letter was a spiteful and unwarranted attack upon the present management, and was, moreover, calculated to injure the hotel. By writing such a letter “ Shareholder ” occupies the -unenviable position of the individual who, "to spite his own face, scratches his own nose.’’ A thorough knowledge of the hotel enables me to say that the present management are doing their utmost to make the hotel a success, and in the opinion of many they are likely to succeed in their attempt. “ Shareholder” ridiculously defines “ impudence” to mean a dissontfrom another’sviows. I think, however, that few people will accept his definition as a correct one. It will be seen that the main charge which I brought against “ Shareholder ” remains unanswered and •unnoticed by him, viz., the unwisdom of rushing into print with a charge against the management, when the more legitimate and wiser course lay open to him of bringing any charge before the directors. I will waste neither your space nor my ink by recapitulating my former statements, but will merely say that every one of them are substantially correct, and I have the author.ty of the management for saying so. Besides, what is more perhaps to the point, is that the directors have taken no notice of “ Shareholder’s " statements. After this, I think it unnecessary for mo to “advertise” either in “Gath” or “Askelon” to convince the Philistino publican or any other Gentile that “Shareholder” does mot stick at trifles when he wishes to vent his pent up spleen. Will “Shareholder” take another cigar at the Company’s expense, and smoke the “ calumet of peace/’ 1 think this is a wiser c ours a than trying to damage an institution which is honestly trying to work out the problem of hotelhoeping without the blighting accompaniment of liquor selling. I am. Ac.,
