By an inadvertence yesterday the names of Messrs Cuff and Graham appeared as agents for the steamer Wakatu. The Wakatu’s agents are Messrs Kinsey, Ward and Co., and they expect the vessel hack on her next trip about Tuesday next. In bis report to the Dunedin Harbor Board, the engineer states, “While recommending the continuance of dredging on -the bar to meet present requirements, I must point out to you the small likelihood of ever securing a depth across it such as will bo required to have the Otago harbor accessible at or near low water to the deepest draught class of vessels by dredging alone but he hopes to get a depth of 23ft to 26ft across it by constructing a training wall out to it, the cost in the meantime to be .£30,275. The mammoth dredger, as far as bar dredging goes, seems to have proved a “ white elephant,” for since last May she bad been enabled to work on the bar only “ part of thirteen days or sixty-five hours.” Only sixty-five hours during six months; and the report states these few hours represented her employment at “ all opportunities.” Truly, he says, he is afraid progress would be very unsatisfactory if this be taken as an average of the year.
