THE LONGBEACH SALE.

At the close of the sale on Monday evening there was a large gathering in the implement shed, and after tea a few x-eturned to Ashburton and other parts of the but the majority took up their quarters for the night at the various camping .and sleeping places about the, homestead.' The result of the sale was deemed very satisfactory, the total value of the bids amounting in the aggregate to £12,393 8s 3d. The weather on the first day was fairly fine, but not such as to induce as many visitors to come from a distance as was expected, but the SECOND DAY’S SALE was greatly interfered with by a heavy downpour of rain, which set in from the south-west late on Monday night. On Tuesday morning there was a fair muster at breakfast, after which a visit of inspection was made to the splendid pedigree stall fed and other choice cattle, many of which had been driven in the yards around the homestead. Amongst the cattle in the stalls was seen some grand young stock, and in the end stall of the shed stood the grand looking bull, Oxford Duke of Cambridge the 2nd, and in the yard, running with a splendid mob of pedigree cows, was Gertrude, a beautiful roan cow by Esau, and bred by Mr John Grigg. The sale on the second day commenced at 11 a.m. with a line of 240 half fat steers. It was raining heavily, and all the stock sold up to one o’clock were yarded up as near the homestead as possible, in order to avoid travelling further than possible in the downpour and mire. The following are the results of the •econd day’s sale : STATION CATTLE. Half fat steers —25 at £7 16s, Mr J. Grigg; 25 at £6 12s Cd. Mr J. Grigg ; 50 at £6 7s Cd, Mr R. Lancaster, Ashburton; 50 at £5 12s 6d, Mr S. Garforth ; 12 at £5 12s 6d, Mr M. E. Amyes ; 50 at £5, Mr J. Grigg; 28 at £4 10s, Mr J. Horwell. One fat heifer amongst the same mob was sold to Mr J. Horwell, at £3 15s. Pat steers —1 at £ls, Mr A. Grant; sat £l3 10s, Mr A. Grant; 7at £lllos, Mr P. Stanage; 9 at £ll 10s, Mr P. Stanago ; 12 at £lO ss, Mr J. Grigg ; 10 at £9 ss, Mr T. Rowe ; 10 at £8 7s Gd, Mr T. Rowe; 10 at £B, Mr T. Rowe. Pat cows —10 at £B, Mr J. Grigg ; 10 at £7 12s 6d, Mr P. O’Neil, Hokitika ; 10 at £7 7s Gd, Mr P. O’Neil, Hokitika; 10 at £7 2s Gd, Mr J. Grigg ; 10 at £G 5s and 10 at £6, Mr J. Grigg ; 10 at £5 12s Gd, Mr Thos. Stone ; 10 at £5 7s Gd, Mr Thos. Stone; 10 at £5 ss, Mr J. Grigg ; 20 at £5 2s Gd, Mr J. Gx-igg"; 10 at £5, Mr R. Lancaster ; 10 at £4l7s Gd, Mr R. Lancaster; 10 at £4 15s, Mr J. Grigg ; and the balance of the line, 117 at £4 17s, to the same buyer. Mr Grigg also bought four young bulls at £2 2s.
