NEW PLYMOUTH MURDER CASE.

NEW PLYMOUTH. November 7. The Supreme Court was occupied the whole day with the trial of Antonio Schnell, charged with having murdered Matthew Knolls at Stratford. Mr Govett appeared as amicus cui-ice for the prisoner, who, when called upon to plead, said, “ I have murdered him, but it was the fault of a dream.” This was taken as a plea of “ Not guilty,” and the trial was then proceeded with. The medical evidence of Dr. Boor of Nelson was to the effect that the man was of sound mind during the time ho was in the Nelson Asylum. The jury retired at fivs o’clock to consider their verdict and returned to Court at seven o’clock with a verdict of “ Guilty.” The judge, in passing sentence of death, said he agreed with the verdict in point of law, but in his own mind he had doubts about the prisoner’s sanity at the time prisoner did the deed. He should represent these doubts in the proper quarter, ,
