This 'day’s announcement made by the Merchant Shipping and Underwriters’ Association telegram, dated New York, Ist iast., of the arrival of the ship Laurita, from Auckland, is now proved to have been incorrect. Received November 7th, 1.30 a.m.
A sale of thoroughbred horses was held to-day at Newmarket. There was a large attendance from all parts of Australia and New Zealand, but high prices were not realised. Darebin was sold for 1550g5, which was the highest price offered for any horse during the sale. C tockwell changed owners at 660 gs, Bagot at 500 gs, and Plying Jib at 300 gs, Prometheus was withdrawn, the highest offer being 800 gs. Por Assyrian 490 gs was bid, and for Savanata 250 gs, but in each case the offer was refused.
Received November 6th, 8 p.m. SYDNEY, November 6. Arrived—This evening, the Union Company’s steamship Kingarooma.
Both Houses of Parliament -were prorogued to-day. ALBANY, November 6.
The P. and O. Company’s steamship Peshawar, with the inward Suez mail, which left London on the 32nd September, arrived in King George’s Sound last evening.
