THE WAIMATE. The New Zealand Shipping Company's •ship Waiinate was towed to an anchorage in Port at midnight on Sunday from London, all well. She brought sixty passengers, amongst whom are several old colonists. Captain Mosey, one of the company's highly •popular masters, is in command, and with Mm as officers are Messrs Hardy (chief), Milward (second), and Campbell (third). Mr .Pickett, the chief steward, completes his seventh voyage in this ship, and, as upon all occasions, has performed his duties so as to gain the good feeling of every passenger on board. This ship is in first-class order, and her appearance in every respect creditable to the worthy master and his officers. She left London on July 29th, and cast off from the tug on August 2nd. On the 31st of August she crossed the Equator. The south-east trades held but for four days, and the voyage was thus protracted, twentyfour days being occupied in reaching the prime [meridian, and twenty-nine days to the Cape of Good Hope. From the Cape, moderate westerly winds, never of any great strength, prevailed Lto the Cape Leuwin; meridian crossed when seventy-seven days out, and Tasmania eighty-six days out. The Snares were made on Monday, the 30th of October, then eighty-nine days out. Next ■morning the wind came fresh from the N.E., and so continued up to Thursday last, when it changed to the south-east, and the Peninsula was made on Saturday morning. • It being very thick, hauled out to the eastward, and the .wind shifting to the S.W., were consequently to leeward of the port about thirty miles, having had a thick night of hard squalls. At 2 p.m. on Sunday saw the tug steamer, but' as a heavy sea was running, kept under 'canvas until the sea moderated at 6 p.m., when the tug took the ship in tow and brought her into port. She was berthed thigjforenoon at the Gladstone Pier, and landed her passengers and their baggage.
