General Wolfe overheard a young officer say to a comrade, ' I dine with Wolfe today.' The General thought to reprove him by the remark, ' You might say " General Wolfe ;" that would be more respectful/ ' Pardon me, sir ? ' was the quick reply ; ' but we never say General Ca:sar, General Alexander.'
