ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
An ordinary meeting of £ho Council of the above Society was held at 3.30 p.m. yesterday at the Commercial Hotel. Present —Mr T. Acland (in the chair), Messrs H. E. Webb, C. H. Bridges, Dr. Prankish, and Mr S. C. Farr, hon. sec.
Several accounts were passed for payment.
Mr C. G. Tripp wrote, asking the- Society to forward him some blackbirds. The Secretary stated that the letter had been attended to.
A letter was read from Mr B. McAdam, asking for 300 trout to turn out in Dock Creek. It was resolved—;" That as some trout had been liberated in this creek some time since, that it was unnecessary to send any more."
The Eev. B. B. Bradley, of Charteris Bay, wrote for a grant of 400 trout, stating that the fish would be liberated in a large reservoir that had been used for retting flax till they acquired sufficient strength for being turned out in the creeks of the bay. The request was acceded to. An application from Mr J. Brooker to catch and deliver blackbirds," starlings, larks, &c, was declined. Mr P. E. Clark, of the .Survey Office, Hokitika, wrote asking the price of perch, tench, carp, and trout, stating that the waters in the vicinity of Hokitika were particularly suitable therefor, and that Mr Temperley, who -would shortly visit Christchurch, would wait on the secretary respecting same. It was agreed that trout were the only fish on sale, and that Mr Clark be written to that effect.
Mr A. Ptrry telegraphed that in future the Temuk paople must obtain their fishing licenses in Timaru.
Mr A. H. Barkett wrote to the effect that netting and spearing trout was very prevalent in the Selwyn.
It was resolved that action be taken to put a stop to the practice. An application was next considered from Mr H. E. Owen, of Palmorston North, re trout and pheasants, and the secretary was instructed to reply that plenty of the former could be sent him, also stating price.
The Secretary reported the receipt of .£6, fees and fines for October, from the K.M. Court.
Mr B. Harper, chairman of the Domain Board, wrote in reply, stating that the request of the society respecting fishing above the white bridge in the Domain, would be considered by the Board as soon as possible.
The station master at Probbleton wrote stating that he had placed the foiir cans of trout entrusted to him in the Halswell, near Mr Moffatt's house, and that Mr Moffatt had promised to protect them as far as lay in his power. An application from Mr Hayhurst for silver pheasants was left for the secretary's attention. The ferrets were reported to bo in capital condition. This" was all the business.
