BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

An ordinary meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Present —Mr W. Montgomery (chairman), the Most Rev. the Primate, Kev. C. Iraser, Hon. E. C. J. Stevens, M.L.C., Dr. Coward, Messrs J. C. Yeel, F. de c. Malet, H. J. Tancrod, Rev. Fereday, H. P. Lance, and W. J. W. Hamilton. „ The reports of the college and estates committees were laid on the table. The Chairman reported that the number of scholars, &c.. attending the different classes at the School of Art, as per report forwarded by Mr D. Blah - , wore as follows :—School of Art classes —Morning, 47 ; evening, 61. High Schools —Girls, IS ; boys, 51. Education Board Normal students, 32 ; teachers, 176. Total, 385. As the students attend two different classes, the total number of individual students is therefore 3SI.

On the motion of the Most Rev. the Primate the Board went into committee to consider the reports submitted. On resuming, the Chairman reported that the clauses empowering the College committee to appoint the College staff were agreed to, also that the committee wore authorised to appoint examiners for both schools, and that the request to ..erect a shed in the College grounds for purposes of drill, &c„ was acceded to. That the estates committee were empowered to purchase five acres of land on the river Eyre, the acquisition of which would add to the value of the property already owned by the Board in that district.

On the motion of che Primate, seconded by the Rev. C. Fraser, the report was approved and adopted. Mr F. de c. Malet moved, and it was resolved—“ That the * College Calendar’ for 1883 be published.” The Board then adjourned.
