Received October 27th, 0 65 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 2S.
At thj New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s wool auction to-day 1909 bales were offered, of which 1000 were sold. There was a largo attendance of bnyeis, and the competition was brisk, prices being firmly maintained. Two large clips, amounting to 800 bales, were withdrawn, reserve upon them being too high. The highest price for merino was 13d, and was obtained for a lot of sixty-seven bales of greasy fleece from the Western district of this colony. For a lot of fifty-four bales of scoured merino 23d was obtained. These prices are the highest yet reached during this season’s sales. Good crossbreds are in moderate demand, and firm at about last sale’s closing rates. Received October 26th, 8.10 p.m. SYDNEY, October 26.
Sailed, this afternoon—The Union Company’s steamship Manaponri, for Auckland.
The emigrant ship Northampton, which struck on a reef near Port Hacking, and was beached at Botany Bay on the 21st instant, has not yet been floated. The recent heavy rainfall has ceased, and reports of flue weather are to hand from all parts of the colony.
