Consols have advanced J, to The market rate of discount is reduced by 1, and is now at 31. Tho Bank rate remains at 5 per cent. New Zealand securities are firm at last quotations. Colonial hreadstnffs continue quiet but firm at the following prices : —Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 495; New Zealand do, 43s to 46a; Adelaide flonr, ex warehouse, 345. Australian tallow, beat beef, 43a 6d; best mutton, 465. Tho London Chartered Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of 3 per cent, lor the past half year, and carried forward £SOOO to reserve.

A severe storm has been experienced throughout England. Heavy floods have resulted tijjgrefrom, and have proved most disastrous in many places, much destruction of property having occurred. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone, in introducing his motion for the reform of the House, announced that he was determined to adhere to the first rule to he proposed, viz., that empowering the Speaker to put the question forthwith; but he was willing to agree to some modification of the other rules. On the motion of the Premier, precedence over all other business was to bo given to the consideration of the new rules.
